If I were sitting across from you right now and I asked you:
“Do you feel that you’ve fully stepped into your greatness?”
What would you say?
I ask this question to my mentorship clients — all of whom are accomplished leaders, entrepreneurs and awesome humans — and here are some of the responses I’ve gotten recently:
I don’t know if I have greatness…
Maybe a little but not fully…
I am not sure what my greatness is…
Are you nodding?
Are you doubting that you have greatness?
You are definitely not alone.
Sometimes I doubt my own greatness, too.
But here’s the thing:
You have greatness.
We all do.
We all have unique gifts, dimensions and abilities that are incredibly important and meaningful.
And when we share our unique abilities in ways that make us feel good and create a positive impact, we are in what I call our Zone of Greatness.
And this feels… absolutely amazing.
When I’m in my Zone of Greatness, I feel at home, but the home is a rocket ship flying through the most beautiful sky. It’s deeply peaceful and exhilarating at the same time.
Last week, I took the awesome humans in my REINVENT•ABILITY Accelerator through an exercise to help them pinpoint their zone of greatness.
One of the women was stumped when it came to identifying her unique abilities.
“It just feels like… just things that I do,” she said.
And there it was: THE reason I see so many people minimize their greatness.
Did you catch it?
Often, our unique abilities are so familiar to us that they feel like just things we do.
We don’t think of them as special because they come fairly easily to us.
So we just take them for granted.
Here’s a wonderful exercise to help you uncover your Zone of Greatness:
Take out a piece of paper.
Make a list of things that:
1: Come fairly easily to you even though they are challenging for others
2: Are challenging but you love to do them anyway
3: People come to you for help with
These are some of your unique abilities or they are threads that you need to pull on to pinpoint your unique abilities.
And if you’re really stomped, here’s the extra credit homework I gave to my REINVENT•ABILITY Accelerator participants:
Ask 2 people in your life what your unique abilities are, your superpowers.
Sometimes we need to get out of our own way and see ourselves through the eyes of people who know and care about us.
They can nudge us towards our Zone of Greatness.
And here’s the last thing I want to tell you:
It is not humble bragging or bragging to acknowledge your unique gifts and abilities.
It is your responsibility.
Because there are people out there who need your gifts. Your contributions.
And if you don’t uncover your Zone of Greatness and to embody it through your life and work, you’re stealing those gifts from the people who need them.
You don’t want to do that, do you?
Of course not.
So forth you go into uncovering your greatness!
Don't miss your happier boost!
